Lesson 2: Crisis In Eden
Memory Text: Genesis 3:15
SATURDAY: Unlike our world today where everything keeps becoming worse, all was good when God made the world (Genesis 1:31). Despite all efforts to make our world a better place, chaos, violence, insecurity, and war has been the order of the day. This week's lesson reveals how Satan caused the fall of man, and how the fall teaches us to not only believe God, but also to obey what He says.
SUNDAY: After God declared all the works of His hands were very good (Genesis 1:31), He gave out three blessings. First and second, He blessed sea creatures and the birds, and also Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:22, 28). But to man, He also gave them the power to be heirs of creation (Romans 8:17, Hebrews 1:2, 3). Thirdly, God blessed man with the Sabbath (Genesis 2:3), for them to have a communion with Him (Matthew 6:26).
MONDAY: Like He made a clear division between light and darkness, woman and man, God made a tree separate from others (Gen 1:4, 6, 7, 14, 18, 21, 24, 25). Aside creating man, beast, and birds from the ground, He made tress with tasty fruits from the ground (Genesis 2:7, 19, 8, 9). In the middle of Garden of Eden He made was the tree of life. Also was the tree of knowledge of good and evil whose fruits were not to be eaten as a test (Genesis 2:15-17).
TUESDAY: Named as crafty, the snake became a strong symbol across Bible history. Whilst Moses lifted up a bronze serpent on a pole to save people from dying (Numbers 21:5-9), Hezekiel had to destroy one as it was used as an idol (2 Kings 18:4), and John key out the "serpent of old" as the "devil or Satan" (Revelation 12:9). Satan came as a serpent, mixed truth with error and made Eve to eat from the tree God forbade them to eat from (Genesis 3:1-5).
WEDNESDAY: Already man was made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26), yet they lost this holy truth and believed Satan's words of them being "like God." And they chose to eat outside what God gave them. Drowned by her senses, Eve ate the fruit, gave some to Adam to eat and their eyes were opened, but was ashamed of what they saw (Genesis 3:4-7). They rejected God as the Provider of every good thing and instead chose a man-made solution to a human need.
THURSDAY: The major outcomes of the fall was that man relation to God broke (they hid from God), so it was between man and man (Adam blamed Eve for his trouble), and man and the environment (the ground will only produce food at the cost of human labour). God explained to them the results of their actions, and spelled to the serpent and man what will occur to them (Genesis 3:10-19). God sacrificed a lamb which pointed to the Saviour to save the human race (Genesis 3:21).
FRIDAY: The beauty of our world today cannot be compared to that Eden, yet there's so much in our universe that testifies to the wonderful works of God. God's creation depicts an incredible beauty and design. Amidst the floods and famines, looking at the fruits and how tasty they are gives us a gist of the Creator's love. We must know that the hope is not in the creation itself but only in the Creator Himself.
